Up until a few years ago, I had specified for property managers and owners to plant many a Wine and Roses Weigelia.

They are a beautiful, compact shrub with purple/green foliage and a prolific bloomer with bright pink blossoms.

A few years ago, I began noticing quite a bit of dieback each spring and it has continually gotten worse. Even though it is a great plant in most respects, I no longer plant this variety because pruning out the dead each year is wasteful and inefficient.
