Winterberry is a great shrub in Minnesota for protected areas in Zone 4. Great summer foliage but stellar fruit that lasts most of the winter. This grouping is on the south side of a building and will grow 5 feet tall and wide if not pruned.
It is a member of the holly family and one of the few that will grow here in Minnesota.
Winterberry is often used and sold for winter and holiday decorative containers and flower arrangements. Unfortunately, winterberry is very delicate and if it not handled very carefully, the berries fall off of the stems and the effect is lost.
Plant this in larger, protected areas of the commercial landscape where you would like additional interest and pop during the winter months!
